On 16 March 2026, AgroBenue Integrated Developments Ltd achieved a major milestone with the signing of a binding Memorandum of Understanding with the Benue State Government for the development of the AgroBenue Integrated Agro-Industrial Complex.

The MoU was signed at Government House, Makurdi, under the leadership of His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia, Executive Governor of Benue State. The agreement establishes the framework for a $530 million agro-industrial development designed to modernize Benue State's agricultural economy and strengthen its position as the "Food Basket of the Nation."

The project is being developed as a fully integrated agricultural and agro-industrial platform, covering the full value chain from production and storage to processing, logistics, and market access. The initiative is intended to transition agriculture in Benue from primarily subsistence-based production toward a more commercial, industrialized, and export-ready model.

The planned investment will support the development of large-scale agricultural production, value-addition facilities, storage infrastructure, logistics systems, and supporting community-focused infrastructure. These components are designed to reduce post-harvest losses, improve food availability, strengthen local farmer incomes, and create significant direct and indirect employment opportunities.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Governor Alia described the initiative as a significant milestone in Benue State's journey toward sustainable agricultural transformation and economic prosperity. He emphasized that the future of agriculture depends not only on production, but also on value addition, processing, industrialization, and market expansion.

The Benue State Government has also confirmed that key preparatory steps have been advanced, including land surveys and relevant documentation required to support implementation. A Steering and Technical Committee has been established to coordinate project activities and support transparency throughout the development process.

Project Investment

The AgroBenue Integrated Agro-Industrial Complex represents a $530 million investment in Benue State's agricultural transformation.

For AgroBenue, the signing of this binding MoU represents a critical achievement and a strong validation of the project's institutional readiness. It confirms alignment with the State Government and provides a foundation for the phased development of one of West Africa's most ambitious integrated agro-industrial platforms.

The long-term vision is to position Benue State as a leading agro-industrial hub in Nigeria and West Africa, where agricultural products are produced, processed, packaged, and exported according to global standards.
